Being a woman today

Being soft in a word where hardness pays off. Trying to be deep, when everyone is concerned about your width. Being helpful, when selfishness rules. Running wild, whilst they say you should slow down. Standing up, when they ask you to sit. Carrying weight, when everyone else is letting go. Looking deep into eyes, when they look away. Caring, nurturing, hoping, praying and building life for our next generation, whilst they say your work at home doesn’t count. Economy, economy is important. Raising children, less so. Earning less, whilst working more. Pushing boundaries, breaking glass ceilings and walls. Feeling and daring to feel. Seeing and be seen. Loving. Loving endlessly. Loving more and again. Breaking and healing. Being more, when less is demanded. Bold, when simple is the instruction. Speaking loud, whilst they want you to whisper. Saying “Me too”, when they’re entering our bodies, our temples. Standing for each other. Carrying life, give life, hold life. Building a home. Turning pages, burning bridges. Like phoenix from fire we live. Carrying the strength and burdens of the generations of women before us. Birthing kings, warriors, soldiers and ministers. For us man destroyed countries, for our love wars began. Wars we didn’t want. Being the beginning and the ending of life. The source.
Sisters, mothers, lovers, daughters. Women – we are standing at the point of no return. I know…not long to go till our daughters will understand the meaning of equality. Until then, I stand in the wind, my roots are strong and I know I’m growing towards the light.
